Designations/Use of Credentials
Physicians who successfully pass the certifying exam are permitted to use the following designations.
Approved designation for physicians:
John Smith, MD
Diplomate, American Board of Clinical Lipidology
or
John Smith, MD
Certified in Clinical Lipidology
The ABCL adheres to the AMA Guidelines for Truthful Advertising of Physician Services, used to verify the legitimacy of certifying boards. The ABCL is not recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Some states prohibit advertising “board certification” by a Board not recognized by the ABMS. Check with your local and state authorities for restrictions.
All healthcare professionals who successfully pass the certifying exam are permitted to use the following designation “Clinical Lipid Specialist.” This credential may be abbreviated and used in the signature of professionals as follows:
Approved designation for all healthcare professionals:
John Smith, PharmD, CLS
There may be limitations imposed by your state or professional licensure board regarding use of this credential in advertising. Check with your local and state authorities for restrictions.
